This course is designed to help you to get a solid understanding of the core features found in 3D Studio Max. 3D Studio Max covers the fundamental basic techniques in modelling, materials, lighting, animating and rendering.
You will receive some hands-on lectures that address the real world production issues. Max is an extensive program and there is so much you can create with it. In this course you will learn everything important to know about 3D Studio Max.
This learning path will teach you the overall fundamentals of moving around and working within 3D Studio Max. You will get familiar with the most useful tools you need to know before you can start working on some complex 3D realistic scenes.
Overview
The first 3 chapters of the course cover the content of one academic semester while providing the basic knowledge. The last chapter includes additional material that helps you to apply the acquired knowledge and create your own "world".
In Chapter 1 – Interface and Basic Modelling, you will learn everything important to know about 3D Studio Max interface. You will get familiar with the most essential tools which you need to know before you can start working on a project. You will explore the 3Ds Max splines, basic lighting and how to effectively utilize the 3Ds Max material editor. You will know how to create 3D text characters that can be used for icons signatures, webpage headers that will significantly improve your 3D design skills.
In Chapter 2 - Poly Modelling and Materials, you will learn some advanced spline editing techniques as well as getting solid understanding to the material editor. Through these lessons you will obtain practical skills for designing 3D packaging, modelling some advanced 3D object by using the most essential editable poly features, modifiers and their settings.
In Chapter 3 – Lighting and Rendering, you will get familiar with some advanced lighting techniques, particle systems, materials and modifiers as well as making a realistic render by using Mental Ray. After this chapter video you will know how to switch your render, use appropriate materials and maps and lighting your space by incorporating some professional lights settings. As a final result, you will be able to increase significantly your render outcomes realism.
In Chapter 4 - 3D Objects, you will receive further material in order to create your own maps, colors, cameras, lighting etc. and unleash your creative genius.

Autodesk 3D Studio Max 2015 is the recommended solution, however, 3D Studio Max versions: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 fully cover the learning content and could be considered as appropriate solutions.
